Do you have something to say? Let's look at how you can say it.
For now I'll keep this short and sweet. I'm an excellent copyeditor. I've got a Copyediting Certificate from UCSD, and before I started doing it for money I did it for pure fun. I can catch small errors and inconsistencies; I can stop at higher-level tangles and suggest ways out of them; I can help with ways in which a total work can better get across its sense and point.
I'm an English-language mutant who doesn't mock people whose brains work more sensibly and less grammatically, and I like to explain the corrections or suggestions that I make. When I have looked over people's work, they have been glad that I did.
Could you use some help? Writing is a wonderful challenge, endless . . . and big. Take me on, and you're not alone anymore.
I work with fiction and nonfiction, academic papers and business writing, book-length works and one-page vignettes, essays, correspondence, web copy, and anything else I can read. I can work with any style guide required (Chicago, AP, MLA, CSE, APA, publishers' house guides, and so on).
I won't accept assignments unless I'm sure I'll be able to finish both those assignments and the ones I already have by the times estimated or arranged. I won't be able to give an estimate of the time your manuscript will require until I've seen a sample of your manuscript (three pages from the middle is a good sample) and we've talked about exactly what you want me to do.
Email me with a description of what you need. Also let me know how you'd like me to work; usually I work with MS Word documents and use Track Changes, and I can give you an idea of how to review my changes there, but, if you're not comfortable working that way, I'm adaptable.

"Alex was a complete stranger to me not six weeks ago. I am very particular about things. I felt Fluency was already in a very good place. But Alex taught me tons of stuff I didn't know. He is thorough, kind, and never insulting. He EXPLAINS instead of dictating and lets me make final decisions. To date, I've worked with a proofreader and two editors, and he is by far the most talented of the three. You won't run afoul if you use him. He has the Jenthulhu stamp of approval."
- Jennifer Foehner Wells, bestselling author of Fluency
"Alex has assisted me multiple times with proofreading and editing. His work is wonderful and he is the most reliable editor with whom I've ever worked. I trust his judgment implicitly."
- Sarah Mastrolia, Community Pharmacist
"A very special 'thank you' goes to my editor, Alex Russell. He is a master at his craft and taught me so much about the nuances of writing a good story. I'm a better writer for his extraordinary work on the manuscript. I highly recommend him to any author, beginning or experienced."
- David Nees, author of After The Fall: Catherine's Tale
“For me, choosing an editor was nerve racking. But Alex made me feel like he was invested in what I wanted to accomplish every step of the way. He let me know what didn’t work and why, and then he presented options that clearly demonstrated that he understood the intricacies of the story, and in ways I had never considered. I can’t imagine a future project without him.”
- A. B. Call, author of Blackworld and the Historians
